The Skunk Whisperer

I've enjoyed a week with the family eating these:

Smelling like this:

And hanging out with these:

And trying to avoid these:

They visited the campsite one night and had ahold of a clear plastic thingy that had contained cupcakes.
My better half, desiring sleep stepped outside the camp trailer and had a conversation with a very cute baby skunk who was chewing on the clear plastic thingy.
He told the cute skunk that he was making a lot of noise and it needed to stop.
My lunatic better half then crouched down and took ahold of the clear plastic thingy and had a tug of war with Pepe Le'Pew.
The gray-haired Skunk Whisperer worked his magic and got the noisy plastic thingy away WITHOUT having to wear Le-Pew cologne.
I was ready to lock the trailer door and not allow the lunatic hubby entrance if that cute little skunk so much as lifted his tail in our direction.
"Sorry honey, but love is only so deep."
You may look like Indiana Jones but I don't do stink!
(I know that's shocking coming from an ER nurse.)

I will miss you little campers!!!

It looks like you had a grand time with the family. I enjoyed catching up on your last few posts. I thought of you as I drove through your town on my way to Salt Lake last week. I hope you are doing well.

oh my goodness, so much fun!
and seriously, it would be YOUR husband that would turn out to be good with the skunks.
no offense to ANYONE reading this btw, but mine has what he & i lovingly refer to as the "fat-gene." he has this way with larger women (and scarily sometimes men) & older women. i kid you not. i was first aware of this innate ability of his while returning from our honeymoon. he didn't even sweet-talk or charm like one would expect. all his did was open his mouth to order and suddenly we found our skipper's meal (like $25+) to be totally free!!! granted the woman behind the counter didn't have all her teeth, so i thought perhaps she didn't have all her faculties about her either. then, less than a couple hours later in the journey it happened again with an older gal. what is the dealio, i was thinking. but its always turned out in our favor.
(not saying we've taken advantage of it, but we're just reminded every so often of this knack mr lkp has. whether its when he goes & pays the garbage bill or just pumping gas. craziest thing! lol.)

what cherubs you have in your family btw. totally jealous of the smores. i can see why you didn't want to stop camping!

What a brave, brave man you have. I won't even take the garbage out at night for fear of encountering the skunks that reside in the bushes around the neighborhood.

I wonder, would he have done the same thing if it had been a mountain lion chewing on the plastic cupcake thingy?

Cute grandkiddies. Looks like fun!

I had a hard time reading anything past the smores. It must have been a good time if those were involved.

skunks are bizarre - glad they didn't share any of that bizarre with your husband though!

Oh my gosh SO funny that he did that! I cannot believe the skunk didn't react!
Years ago we were camping and in the middle of the night heard some sounds outside the trailer door. I opened it up to find a huge skunk right outside the door getting into the garbage my better half forgot to put away. We looked each other in the eye and then I slowly closed the door - I was not about to mess with him. It scared me 1/2 to death!!
I figured you were out having fun somewhere - looks like fun times with your kids and grandkids - that picture right at the end is SO especially cute!!

What a wonderful fun time! And those kiddo's...precious beyond words!

As for that skunk whisperer, I'm actually impressed he got away with that without getting sprayed. Man, I would have let them keep the cupcakes!

Wow, that's one brave hubby you have!
We were camping for a week too~ but the most exciting thing in our camp was a weasel and some pot-guts.
Looks like you had a great time.

That looks fun! We had a two skunks get into our food tent at girls camp one year (depsite seriously lock down), a racoon opened the zipper and the three of them got into it in amongst the food.

THe only person who could clean it out was our YW president. She has no sense of smell.

DISGUSTING!

Oh what a fun trip!!! Wow. Your hubby is the man.
And Tauna, at great personal sacrifice, I've decided that you and i can remain friends.

Oh....awesome. The skunk whisperer. I saw a skank whisperer the other day, but it wasn't the same. You are my hero...you even camp.

I am so happy to hear that the skunk didn't win and that you were able to get a little R & R.

gigi said...

Hey, BTW, did you take some crack with you?

Lisa said...

Hey, I just got back from St. Anthony's. Left the rest of my clan there to damage their bodies without me having to witness it, so if you end up with any of them in the ER, please take pictures and post them on your next blog. :)

Looks like so much fun! I am glad you were able to repel the skunks... that could have ruined everything!

aw, sounds like so much fun, skunks and all! I love Pepe le Pew btw! (but not smelling like him).

You always make me laugh with yours posts! :) Looks like such a fun weekend. I would have opted to smell like the campfire over the skunk as well :)

Cute or not, a hubby with skunk cologne would not be fun!

Maybe he could have a reality show as a skunk whisperer? You never know, they have all kinds now.

You're too funny!

Those have to be the cutest little campers I've ever seen. The kids - not the skunks.

Oh my word,I am glad he won the skunk war.;) That is not an animal I would have liked to tangle with unless we had tons of tomato juice handy.
We once had a moose outside our tent at Island park making a racket and mess. None of the 6 of us were brave enough to get him out of our site.
Your skunk whisperer sounds like a keeper to me and so do your precious little ones. They are so adorable.

Reason number 5,183 I HATE camping. I am seriously impressed with your husband's skills in reasoning with potential dangerous, foul smelling scavengers. Maybe we could have him work with politicians next?
