HALLOWEEN DECORATIONS FINALLY DOWN!

You think I'm kidding?
Well.....I'm not.

Life has been a little too busy.
Work really cramps my style.
I just wanna play all the time.

The tree is up.
Candice is cleaning the house (AWESOMENESS!)
And I did a little crafting today.

I made a tree-skirt.
I copied it from Red Hen Home who saw it on Pinterest from here.
Red Hen's was so DARLING.
I knew I had to make one.

A little burlap and red fabric....
.....and a bunch of hot glue sticks.
(Did you know that surgical gloves keep you from getting burned on hot glue?)
It felt good to craft!

I also took down my SWAG.
We've had it for a million years.
It may be older than Candice.

I loved it because it took up a lot of room on my large living room wall.
My children noticed that it is ALL of the family pictures.
(It really is!!!!)
I'm tempted to cut it up into small pieces and give it to the SPAWN for Christmas.

In honor of the SWAG going away I'm going to have a CHOCOLATE GIVEAWAY.
It's some of my own hand-dipped chocolates.
All you need to do is leave a comment telling me what in the heck am I going to put on my wall!

I'll random.org the winner on Saturday.

That makes me laugh because I used to have a big old chunk of swag like that with a matching wreath. It's always nice to make a change. Go with something totally different, like a fun piece of art!

I say put up random sized frames with no glass or pictures and use your cricut to make cool vinyl cutouts to fill them..

Looks like the one my mom still has on her wall. So dusty.
Leave it blank for a while. That will give you time to think.

Your very own photography framed is some wide black frames!! AWESOME!

Please send Candice to my house when she gets through. I will pay her well and feed her some shrimp and pecans too.

You have such a pretty tree. It is real right? Mine is not. I think I am alergic to a real tree in the house :( Sad isn't it?

Way cute tree skirt! You did an awesome job!

Love the tree and skirt!

Now, I'm thinking a photo from your Florida vacation would be good for that wall!!!

I'm not very confident in the home decor department, but I'd REALLY love to win that chocolate! So . . . how about an extra big clock along with some large framed family photos?

I'm thinking that since the swag is in all the pictures, you could print off all of them and put them in it's place... but that would be mostly to annoy your kids...

I love the tree skirt! It's really cute!

Well a quilt of course! They take up lots of space and everyone thinks you're so smart. :) I've been looking at that tree skirt on Pinterest - love the red and burlap. If I didn't have one my mom made I'd be making that one too. blessings, marlene

I did a bit of research on your blog... And can confirm that the swag is indeed in many pictures. I think some fun frames with a meaningful vinyl saying could fill the spot. I agree that leaving it blank to think on it is a great idea.

You make me laugh. I think you should give some of the swag to your spawn;(and laugh when they open their presents).

I agree with you about work cramping your style; it cramps mine too. I love your tree skirt. I wished that I paid attention in Home Ec. I struggle sewing on buttons.

P.s. pick me! I was heart broken when I didn't win last year....seriously.

I love the tree-skirt! And I am not so skilled at decorating, but perhaps a painting of your old swag would look lovely.

That tree skirt is so pretty and your tree looks gorgeous. Well we have a wall that we are currently doing with canvas pictures. Each time they send me a special I order one. We are putting up special places we have been. We are making it a gallery wall and will continue to fill it from top to bottom.

I am jumping up an down with excitement because you know what I have? I have a picture of you and I sitting on the couch with THE Swag!! Boo-Yah!!

I think you might need a new and pretty family picture, framed just right in that spot :-D

I love it that you admitted the Halloween decorations story..I KNEW I liked you!

The skirt is great--do the surgical gloves not melt with the glue?

On the wall? I love the quotes and wall words..messages to be read and seen and enjoyed.

or how about the family that the swag shared it's life with in all those families??
Hmm...

PS..you had me at chocolate!

I didn't even know what the hell a swag was until you posted the picture. I think instead, you should put some sort of smell good wreath or something.

And feeling so good after crafting? Me too. Like 2lbs lighter!

Wow, you have been very busy since I saw you this morning. The burlap tree skirt turned out very cute!

I am laughing about all the 'swag comments' especially the one that said she didn't know what the hell a swag was. . .btw that isn't the one Deidra made for you is it?

Anyway it was so fun to see you today, you rock!!!

I LOVE the tree skirt...so perfect! The swag huh? It does feel so good to get rid of them..love change! There are so many beautiful pieces of art done in metal now...make it cheap and then in a year you can have another change! Nice give a way! ;D

Love the tree skirt! I have been admiring it on pinterest also but haven't done anything more than just that.

I was also wondering what you meant by swag until I saw your photo. My idea for your wall would be to paint that wall a bold accent color (red, midnight blue, chocolate etc) then get a really nice Greg Olsen or Mark Mabry's painting of Christ to hang there.

I have something similar in mind for my own home when it is finished.

Have a very Merry Christmas!

Listen, I have what I refer to as A Wall Of Shame in my living room too, so I will be of no help.
PLEASE, cut up that 90's swag and give each child a piece, then report back to us about how that went :)
Did you say chocolate??????

Valerie said...

Love that tree skirt! I might have to attempt one of those!
Hello? Vinyl words on the wall, don't ya know? :)
I've been liking the empty picture frames look...or the chalkboard wall w/ frames...will either idea win me chocolate???? :)

just call me jo said...

Wow, you had tons of comments today...cute skirt. Look at you go. You're in the spirit now.

Barbaloot said...

Ooh ooh-a chance to win some of your chocolate!!

What if you use the new space to put season boards up---like Merry Christmas, Happy Easter, God Bless America...?

Or put up a family picture?

Yvonne said...

Change is good. How about an 8 x 10 picture of your chicken coop ; ) Or a nice vinyl saying.

Great job with the tree skirt. It feels good to get the tree up, doesn't it ; )

Ann Marie said...

OK.. I will do anything for chocolates! :) Well.. almost anything.

How about a really cool mirror??

I am impressed at your tree skirt skills.. and working.. and dipping chocolates... I think your kinda a wonder woman!!

RIP swag.

You are making wonderful progress!! Just look what all you have done, when have you had time to take down Halloween decorations. Love the tree skirt and the tree is beautiful. Since the swag has been in all the family pictures how about putting up a family picture to be in all the family pictures now. :) Hugs

Yehh, the swag came down.

Did you say chocolates? Count me in.

I would hang up kid art in beautiful frames. I just love kid art.

Going to Ross and find a big metal swirly type thing- cannot think what they are called. Or you can do four square canvases with either pictures of family or even modpodged with coordinating fabric.

tammy said...

Love the tree skirt! Is that burlap ribbon on the tree too? Love.

I think you should put up some vinyl lettering that says: My Favorite Child, then swap out their pictures underneath it as they each work to be your favorite.

I had a very similar swag of dried flowers too--for like 10 years, until we moved from Idaho back to CO in 2008. Mr W told me to leave it there, so I did. I still miss it! In fact, I had two. Both are long gone and I'm still looking for something to replace them!

MZ said...

I can send you a picture of Z and I to hang on the wall. I think I have a swag I need to get rid of now also.

Connie said...

If you saw my wall decorations, you'd never ask me home decor ideas!
This giveaway is amazing! I've had your chocolates before and girl, you know how to dip!

Shayron said...

A nice piece of art would look nice. Or how about your favorite quote cut out in vinyl? I see it all the time done with those cricket machines. And if I win can you dip me some gummy bears?? LOL

lesa said...

How about you print out all the pictures of your family that have the swag in it and frame them and hang them on the wall.

Pick me! I'm not dipping this year (at least not at the moment) so I need me some homemade chocolates.

Kerin said...

You crack me up!!
The way you're crafting and dipping chocolates and being the creative you that you are...I have every confidence that you will pick the perfect decor to replace the swag :)

Just wait 'til after Christmas, you never know...maybe one of the kiddos already has a gift bought for you to take the place of the swag :)

Your giving away chocolate and I'm giving away caramel! Just think what we could do if we lived near each other. As for your wall, how about a nice macrame of Edward and Bella?

AiringMyLaundry said...

I love your decorations!! So pretty!

As for the chocolate...maybe put pictures on the wall? I am so not creative, I know..

wendy said...

well, you could put a collage of pictures of ME on your wall.
love the tree
I WANT that Christmas skirt
and glue guns are scarry

love you

That's hilarious!! Weren't those swags just the most wonderful invention?! Things are so clean-cut now days - no fluff or frill! I think you should just fill your wall up with your wonderful posterity! I never get tired of looking at pictures of my kids and my grands. I would love to have a wall that starts with me and my husband and just keeps going, kind of like a family tree!

The tree skirt is adorable! I just HATE Pinterest (not really!), I could just waste a whole day picking creative brains!!

Good luck with the wall!

Hugs,
Barb

First off, love the tree skirt. Love it. Second, WHAT IN THE HELL WERE YOU DOING WITH THAT SWAG STILL ON YOUR WALL?! If you hadn't taken it down, I'd have had to stage an intervention. Listen, you take care of my blood, guts and disease, and I'll fill your swag void. Deal? How about a big ol' moose head? ;) No? Okay, then, you could do a really cool family tree, with spawn all over the wall. Huh? I've seen some awesome painted trees, and then you hang your children's pictures from the branches.

I want some chocolate!!!!

You should craft something else for your wall!! Maybe a pennant???

I need some of those gloves!! Hugs!

Connie said...

Chocolate??? Did you say a Chocolate giveaway?????
Count me in sister, I am always up for homemade, handdipped chocolates, Yes Sireeee!

Brenda said...

CHOCOLATE...I'm in!
Hang a beautiful Quilt or possibly some "favorite" photos done in black and white with black frames. Do a picture collage and surprise your sweet husband for Christmas!

Lisa @ Pulsipher Page said...

Yum! I LOVE your chocolates! Since you're in a crafty mood I'd say do a fun happy wall like I did with wood squares and scrapbook paper. It's so easy but makes a big impact. Here's the link http://rlpulsipher.blogspot.com/2010/05/art.html

am i too late to offer my idea too?! saw this at my 2nd or 3rd cousins' house in august. in vinyl (about 3'x3') have a verse of your favorite hymn done. place it on the wall, and then in the center of the hymn, hang a framed print of the temple. or the Savior. will take up a good deal of space on that lovely wall of yours + may truly become one of your most cherished places in your home. :) i loved the idea so much i'm trying to figure out which wall to place a scaled down version of this idea as well. ::hugs::

LKP said...

p.s. i LOVE your tree skirt. i've been on the look out for great new ideas, btw. and then the other night there was a scentsy "incident" that left me with a tree skirt fatality. (i was even melting down some of that Christmas tree scent you gifted me last year!) so now i NEED tree skirt ideas. (just stumbled across one made from an old wedding dress' skirt this morning. genius since i have my wedding gown in the closet just collecting dust & wrinkles!) but i'm still partial to the use of burlap! ::hugs::

LKP said...

hahahahaha! tammy's idea rocks! kinda like an employee of the month program. and when all your kids piss you off, put up pix of your grandkids, or the chickens! :)

OK...I have the most amazing photos of ALL of your Egan men hanging perilously from ladders off the side of your house. They are begging for me to paint them in watercolor. Hear them? "Paint me! Paint me!" (I've been dying to try it.) I have just the frame too. Huge, gold, yummy! So... won't cost a cent. Got all the stuff. Got some time over the break too. Let's do it! (or a smaller version you can stick in the hallway). Hugs!
