WHOLE WHEAT BREAD

I work with a doctor that is helping his son earn money for his mission and college tuition.
By growing wheat.
He's not a farmer, but they grew wheat.

He knows I'm a breadmaker so he offered some to me so I could make some bread and give him an honest opinion of his wheat.

So I got home from work and ground some wheat.
"Very pretty wheat doc! Thanks!"
After it was ground I mixed it and baked it.
Start to finish 2 hours.
That includes clean up.
Doesn't everyone make their own bread and grind their own wheat?
(except NITA!)
I told the doc that I would make his family a batch of bread.
My recipe makes four three loaves.

ZCMI Whole Wheat Bread
5 1/2 C hot water
2/3 C cooking oil
2/3 C honey
2 Tbs salt
3 Tbs instant yeast
2 Tbs lecithin (usually I forget)
1/2 C vital wheat gluten (usually I forget)
11-14 C whole wheat flour (really doc, your wheat is great!)
Put into 4 bread pans and bake at 350 degrees for 42 minutes. Take out of pans, butter the top. Let cool and enjoy.

I'm looking around for the "like" button! There's not much better then fresh homemade bread with butter and jam. Russ likes making bread and whenever he does, that's our dinner. And it's perfect.

Wow, what gorgeous bread! I think you are my bread making twin! I love to grind mine too and my recipe is a bit like yours but I don't put the extra things in it and it takes 90 min. from start to finish. Nothing, nothing like homemade bread! My recipe is on my side bar. :D

I have wheat and a wheat grinder but don't make homemade bread very often. I think you may have given me enough inspiration to make me some bread tomorrow. Your loaves look like manna from heaven.

You must have a bread maker along with your grinder. The wheat looks like good quality and your bread...well, I hope you have a loaf on Dec. 2nd!! I can't wait to see you!!

Sweet Tauna, is there anything that you do not do? That bread not only looks beautiful but also yummy. The more I learn about you the more amazed I am at all you do and do well. Hugs

looks divine! i can almost smell the fresh, warm loaves from here!

as for the hubby, he's not currently on the oil fields. though his buddy amos (also from the Burg) has offered him a job on the fields in north dakota a bajillion times. :) he's hauling some heavy rock-crushing machinery from sites in montana over to north dakota. talked to him earlier and he said it's INSANELY cold there. WORSE than when he WAS working the oil fields in wyoming! i cannot imagine anything worse than that.... besides something arctic or antarctic. hopefully he'll be able to make it home by late saturday. ::fingers crossed:: love yer guts too! (btw, its cold here as well, only about 5 degrees warmer than you right now. so i'd be plenty happy at your house, hanging with ya in warm suvvy socks, laughing or canning or dipping chocolates or playing quiddler or really just about anything. it'd feel very norman rockwell postcard-esque to me right about now! LOVE YOU, SUPERWOMAN!!!!) ::hugs::

That bread looks delicious! You are really smart and I admire your many talents. Nice to receive the wheat from the dr. and even nicer that you made his family the bread. Wishing you a nice weekend.

I wish I had a wheat grinder. Growing up our family had one and my Mom made the best wheat bread ever. Your bread looks wonderful and thanks for sharing the recipe.

I always joke that I'm not a real Mormon because I don't grind my own wheat. But I didn't realize people *actually* do grind their own wheat.

Oh I love homemade wheat bread. Evan loves it the mostest. We'll have to try this recipe!

No not everyone grinds their own wheat. I do however make bread from time to time. They look delicious.

Homemade bread is the best!

I too like to grind my own wheat, and make homemade bread.

I'm impressed with your friend for being industrious, and finding a way to earn money for his son's mission!
What a great example he is.

I'm curious what kind of wheat it is.
I've been having better luck with the hard white wheat. I used to use the hard red wheat, but have found that I like the sweeter taste of the white wheat.

You did a great job on that bread... it looks delicious!!

Why yes, I do grind my own wheat and make my own bread! I have the BEST recipe! Yours looks delicious!

Oh you get an A+ girl...this bread is the bomb! I think my recipe is pretty similar. Do you use a mixer? If so what kind do you like. I've worn out two Bosch in my lifetime and I'm on the hunt for a new mixer.

I bet this bread is so yummy with your fresh eggs. One more question, do they freeze and crack before you get them to the house? Just asking....;D

Seriously making my mouth water! I love homemade wheat bread. Splenda Daddy mentioned maybe getting a kitchenaid so I can start doing that.*snort* You'd think he'd know me by now. But for reals, if he does pull that trigger, I might likely be hitting you up for help. Like how to turn it on and stuff like that.

You da domestic queen!

Holy Bom-diggity, that looks amazing. I feel like I can smell it from here.

My wheat bread doesn't look like that. That looks amazing!!! I haven't made wheat bread in a while because mine usually turns out so dense. If I try your recipe and it turns out brick like then I will know that bread making is not for me!

Have you heard my story. I wanted to show Lynne my daughter in law how fast I could make wheat bread. Unfortunately I grabbed steel cut oats and ground them instead of what. (No I do not know what I was thinking). Does not make a good loaf of bread.

Once more you've overachieved and put us to shame. Thanks a lot. Now I'll just continue being mediocre for the rest of the day with my Wonder bread.

It looks yummy. Do you have an electric grinder, or do you grind your wheat by hand? Peanut Head and I recently bought a hand grinder and, MAN, it is a lot of work.

I love whole wheat bread - I can't wait to try your recipe; I think I even have all the ingredients! Yours looks so delish!

It was cold here today - but we hardly got any snow, just a few scattered flakes. The sun is shining and it is so pretty outside! Of course it would be nice - because I spend most of the night raking leaves and hauling them to the pasture . . . because it was suppose to snow!! Dang it . . . :0)

Hugs,
Barb

Yum! I love homemade bread. If I had the wheat grinder attachment for my Kitchen Aid mixer I might make it more often!

You're bread looks absoultely delicious!! Do you just mix your bread in a mixer and how long do you let it rise?

It's funny....when we were first married I revised all of my bread recipes to make 2-3 loafs per batch. I got looking at your recipe with 11-14 cups of flour and can't imagine making a recipe that called for that much flour at one time.

You are an AWESOME bread maker and have inspired me to grind some up...it's been a few weeks since I fired up my wheat grinder. Jade is looking at your bread photos and begging me to make up a batch of Honey Whole Wheat bread as well. On this rainy, chill day, bread and soup, would be the PERFECT thing to warm up.

BTW....SO, SO excited for my chocolate dipping class!! Tracy is just thrilled that I am going to be making us some yummy hand dipped chocolates to enjoy during the holidays. He made the SWEETEST comment about what a kind, true friend you were and how lucky I am to have in you in my life!!

I spied HOWIE at work today...I hope you are enjoying your HUBBY!!!
