The TUPPERWARE BOWL

Last night I babysat Lexi.
Her mom was doing a night shift in the ICU in Idaho Falls and her daddy is in Dallas for a few months.

She played and sang and stayed up late.
Then at 0-dark-thirty she woke up.

Barfing.

It's been years since I've done the child-barfing-thing during the night.
I'm old.

But this isn't a foreign experience for me.
I'm a nurse for Pete's sake.

Patients come in all the time.
Barfing.
Clutching a Tupperware Bowl.
Using it for...
barf.

In the ER we have much more sophisticated equipment.
It's a pink basin.
Totally the latest design.

I am ALWAYS totally sicked out to see the Tupperware bowl in the ER.
Even more sicked out when they insist on taking it home when they are discharged from the ER.
Really?
Ya gonna use that thing again?

I have pink basins at home. (new ones might I add)
They are awesome for holding items like measuring cups, small lids and other miscellaneous
kitchen gadgets.

So explain this to me:

(I had to reach past a pink basin to get this.
It's clean, don't gag.

For the record.
I have one less Tupperware Bowl.

That totally cracks me up! Tupperware should come out with a barf bowl.....cause that's what we used growing up!

So sorry! Middle-of-the-night-barfs are the WORST! We use old gallon ice cream containers for our Barfy buckets.

My kids use the big shiny mixing bowls... and dude. I totally rinse them, stick them in the dishwasher, and then make cookies in them the next day. If I threw away everything that barf ever touched in this house, I wouldn't have much left!

We have a large green plastic bowl we use.

Doesn't everyone have a tupperware barf bowl? I think they are the first choice for barfing in because I am quite sure it would hold at least the initial puking without overflowing.

I am with Jenny P., that is what dishwashers are for.

LOL that is all so true...and raising my 8 I have been there done that many times! I think every house has a bunch of those pink sinks, I know we do! And the yellow socks with rubber on the bottom! At the temple I had a young pregnant mom that was doing the barf thing, I had a plastic bag for her but she wanted the nearby garbage pail. ;D

sorry she's sick, but you are SOOOOO right about the bowl thing. icks me out! cannot do it. instead, we have plenty of plastic wastebaskets around. that's what they're for, and barf is waste out the wrong end! so, yeah, i don't cry when i trash a wastebasket. just sayin. luv u!

You knew we were all gagging because we couldn't get past the fact that barf did reside in the bowl not long ago, right? What a bummer of a night for you. :(

LOL! Sorry to laugh, but you made me!!! The dishwasher will disinfect anything so it's no biggie!

Guessing you don't want to eat anything out of my bowls then, huh???

Sorry the kiddo was sick - that's no fun for anyone!

I was in California a couple of years ago taking care of my grandkids and everyone (including me) got the flu. The worst, by far, was when the 8 month old got it. Being up all night is not easy for an old woman ; )

BTW, can't say as we've ever used tupperware bowls. We use the garbage cans.

Hope she is feeling a whole lot better.

So sorry she's sick. I no longer have Tupperware but when I see it at thrift stores, I'll always remember this story!!!

Wishing you a wonderful weekend, Tauna!

i think tupperware is way to expensive to barf in but if you do at least you can be sure that it is sealed tight and burped! have a great weekend!

I am reading this right after breakfast. Pass me the tupperware bowl, please. I don't want to talk about it any more. I love you, but really? TMI maybe. I don't remember ever having anything special to use for afore mentioned substance. I tried to get said child to the bathroom, I think. Did I say that I don't want to talk about it any more? I still love you though. I know you're a nurse and somewhat barf resistent, but me--not so much---

LOL! Nice. Sorry for the barfing, that stinks! HA! No pun intended.

Okay... maybe a little. :D

Ugh! In my house it's always the trashbin. The plastic trashbins we have in the bathrooms and some other rooms.

I learned the hard way to never barf in a SINK.

This one had me laughing so hard - I tried to comment last night because I was reading it in bed on my phone, but the dang phone wouldn't let me!

So I just have to say that:

1 - I have a big tupperware bowl just like that.

2 - Everyone in my house has barfed in it at least once over the years.

3 - It cleans up well in the dishwasher.

4 - I'm sending you some cookies - Bah ha ha ha ha ha

Love you chickie - I would of thought that of all people you would not be bugged by this!!

Hope little Lexi is feeling better.

Tupperware is the best and expensive I reuse also....don't judge me.

Liz Mays said...

There's no way I'd reuse it either! I think I would have grabbed a bowl too, but the perfect thing would really be a small trashcan. I never thought of it before though!

We have one tupperware bowl in orange just like that. The first time it was used for throwing up, it became the household 'throw up' bowl. We only use it for that. Yep, this whole post grosses me out just sayin'

Tauna, I have a 'twiner' tuperware bowl to yours. . .I will never be
able to look at it the same now!
In fact I may never be able to look
at again eevvvverr!

Valerie said...

We've graduated from a Tupperware bowl to an icecream bucket! I always hate when my kids reach for my bowls to barf in!!! I've thrown out a couple too...:) YUCK!!! Sadly, I have also washed and reused a few too! That TW is expensive...

Connie said...

YUK! What's with all the barfing going around? My daughter's family ALL had the flu at the same time this past week! Guess how many bowls they used!! Gag!
I may think twice before eating potato salad out of someone's tupperware bowl.

mCat said...

It never occurred to me to use the Tupperware, I was raised using a pot pan, and that's what I always made the boys use.

I am completely sure that I can never eat out of someone's Tupperware at a potluck ever again. I will NEVER know what was in there!

And can you believe in 4 years, we have never had to deal with Chloee puke? *knocking on wood*

Eww....I can't get that out of my head. Sorry Lexi was sick. Hope she is feeling better now.

Getting up with a barfing kid is hard enough when you are in your 20s or 30s. So sorry! Yuck!

Those pink basins are waaaay to small for the episodes we have around here! That's why all of the beds and baths have plastic garbage cans :)

Oh, I am so sorry about the sick baby having stayed with you.
Last week on vaca with the grands we all got the stomach virus. It makes for a lovely vacation! Oh and I have several of those nice pink basins.

Valerie said...

I shouldn't say this since you know my husband, but one time years ago he ran PAST the bathroom and barfed in the kitchen sink. I was like, WHAT?!? believe me, he hasn't done that one again!!

P.S. We use the big rubbermaid dish tubs for sick kiddies. No food ever goes in them!
