I wasn't gonna............

I wasn't gonna dip chocolates this year. I wasn't going to make multiple batches of caramel or English Toffee. I wasn't going to make orange creams or nut clusters. I was going to have a clean kitchen and sit around all day.

Then my husband asked me "when are you going to dip chocolates?" I replied that I wasn't that bored and hadn't planned on doing chocolates this year. Stunned silence. Then he starts quoting in his best Boris Karloff voice
"it came without ribbons, it came without tags, it came without boxes, or ribbons or bags! You're a mean one Mr. Grinch"
(he does it with the whole deep singing voice and everything....quite the effects honey!)

So THIS is what I've been doing. I'm not sitting around and my kitchen isn't clean.
Because when my better half looks at me and says "but why Santie Claus why?"

Well, I have no choice but to keep up the tradition of a messy kitchen and NOT sitting down.

  1. It's tradition. Dip chocolates. This is the only time of the year you shouldn't feel guilty about it = )

Hey if your husband needs a hot meal or anything while in Minnesnowda, please don't hesitate to call (651)797-3662 or email salamina3000@yahoo.com. Yeah, I know that is not the wisest thing to do by putting my number up, but who would want to call this boring LDS home but another LDS member = )

If we are a church good enough to help the entire world, were a church good enough to look after other members.

  2. OOOooooo how I wish I could use your excuse as to why my kitchen isn't clean either. But hey, the tree is finally decorated. Does that count?

Do you think we could slip some of those goodies through cyber-space?

Tell hubby, the Grinch needs to come out every now and again so we can have our hearts grow.

    Sure love you

  7. I came over from my friends blog. This post made me laugh. Even adults like their traditions - very cute. And the process looks delish! Your blog is sweet and I'll be back!
    Thanks,

  9. Yum, yum! Where are those recipes, Mrs Grinch??

Now, wouldn't it be better to buy a box of chocolates and snuggle with your hubby? But then, it's quite a compliment for them to be a Xmas must for him.

  10. LOL! atleast it wasn't the line "...you nauseate me, Mr Grinch..." cause that's the gem i'd probably get from my hunny! =) funny, i thought now that the party was over, i'd be able to slow down & keep my house clean & rest...but no rest for the weary...or the wicked...or whatever. same thing here, suddenly there's a great demand for idle isles & poor man's almond roca & fudge. guess i'm getting off my duff this week & getting right back to work. perhaps i'll even get my family's Christmas gifts wrapped! =) you're too sweet & i appreciate your support through all my crazy posts! thanks.

  12. You are SO funny! I can just picture Howard saying that to you.

I know how it goes with a MESSY kitchen, let's put that MESSY HOUSE this time of the year! My house has looked like a whirlwind hit it for the past 2 weeks, because it's been so hectic.

I just barely got my tree put up. Tracy took the kids shopping Saturday afternoon and I was finally able to get a little bit of order back to our home.

Since you dipped chocolates with the Queen of chocolate dipping (Florence), I'm sure your holiday treats are absolutely delicious!!

Have a HAPPY day! YAY---temps are in the 30's and the sun is shining! Absolutely gorgeous Monday!

  13. My mom has dipped chocolates for decades! Her chocolates are better than Mrs. Maxfield's or Mrs. Sees! I've never followed in her footsteps, just followed her around hoping to have all the chocolates I want. This year she's NOT making chocolates (so what if she's 86!) I'm having withdrawals. Am I supposed to carry on the tradition or just have it as a sweet memory? You tell me!

  14. I just hate when that happens!

You're just to good to be missed.

If I was a little closer I'd come clean your kitchen for a few of your chocolates, be glad to.

  15. As always I enjoyed by visit over to your place. Honey your kitchen looks way better than mine. If Santa brings me a digital camera for Christmas you girls will see that I spend way too much time blogging.
Love how your hubby talked you into it. Fun
    Take care

It's funny that we can give up on many things....but not the traditions!

  17. Every year I keep telling myself that I am not going to make candy or dip chocolates for the same reason and because I just eat them. But every year I do it because it has become a tradition at our house and it is part of the gifts we give to others. So I do not sit around and I do have a messy kitchen and I probably gain 5 extra pounds before the holiday is over... but it's probaly worth it! ;)

  18. It all sounds really good. I usually bake and put something in all the boxes I mail out but I didn't this year. I do hope to do some baking next week. It's not Christmas without all the goodies!

I remember your post from last year and thinking "You are the woman!!". I have always wanted to do this but never have. I am sure your family totally would miss it if you didn't make them. So Good Job!!!!!

  20. I wasn't gonna do any of those things either. But yesterday I went to the store and bought all of the ingredients, so I guess now I have too.
    Happy Chocolating!

  22. Doesn't being a Grinch seem so relaxing? Oh, but the mess and hecticness (I think I just made that word up) is always worth it. Makes for so many happy smiling faces.
