We celebrated Thanksgiving on Friday.
"Thanks for the Apple Pie Nita!"
She knows how unSTELLAR my pies are and she took pity.
I must be world renown for making horrid pies.
Just as we were sitting down to eat, the mailman stopped by with this box.
?
So I opened it right then.
Inside.....
A homemade PECAN PIE!
I am not lying!
Packaged so carefully.
From Gigi in Georgia.
She had told me earlier than every good Southern woman who is worth anything at all serves a Pecan Pie.
The packaging was a feat in perfect engineering.
Unbelievable.
Not a scratch on it and because it's so stinkin' cold here it was perfectly preserved.
I laughed.
Then I cried.
Then I ate.
Then I converted to the truthfulness of being a Southern Woman.
And of Pecan Pie!
And Apple Pie.
And many other pies.
Today I suffer from Pie Coma.
Amen.
You are a very lucky girl. Don't tell Gigi, but I've never had pecan pie, let alone made one.
ReplyDeletePie comas are well worth having, I'm thinking. That looks spectacular. Actually both of them do. YUMMY!
ReplyDeleteNow I want some pie. I LOVE pecan and apple pie. With whipped cream on top.
ReplyDeletePecan is my very favorite and that is a gorgeous pie, especially to have travelled that far!!!!!
ReplyDeleteMan, Gigi is the best!!
ReplyDeleteFunny, I've never had a pecan pie either and I LOVE pecans! You're so lucky!
ReplyDeleteHow awesome was that! It looks delicious.
ReplyDeleteI second that Amen! A Pie coma is the best kind of coma to obtain or possess, or accomplish!
ReplyDeleteThat pecan pie is truly a masterpiece. Gigi is quite the woman!!
What a delightful friend. Pecan pie!! To die for. Apple with vanilla ice cream... Ahh, I'm in a coma just thinking about it. You deserve a good coma after working so hard on Thanksgiving. Enjoy the weekend.
ReplyDeleteWow, you are so special to get a real southern made pecan pie. Gigi is awesome for doing that!
ReplyDeleteWow!!! How can someone ship a pie all the way from Georgia and have it arrive in perfect condition? I am SO impressed. It looks like a yummy pie too. I think I ate a half a pie all by myself on Thanksgiving because I had to have a slice of every kind we had. :) I'm such a pie addict! My stomach was KILLING me! haha I'm sure your pies can't be as bad as you say...
ReplyDeleteI hope your family had a nice Thanksgiving!
You are so so blessed to have a friend like Gigi!! I didn't know you could ship PIE without messing it up! Wow!
ReplyDeleteIf I pretend to be bad at making pies will Gigi take me in?
ReplyDeleteThat is really awesome!! I make pies and I make pretty good ones too if I don't say so myself, but I had never made a pecan pie in my life until this year. It's my Hubby's favorite (not mine)... but it turned out looking just like the one you received so I must have done something right. I'm glad you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Looks like you have some really great friends!!! :D
ReplyDeletePecan pie is my very favorite and that is the most beautiful one I have ever seen!! I thought mine looked pretty dang good till I saw Gigi's - she rocks!!!
ReplyDeleteI am in total awe that that pie made it all the way across the country in one piece. What an absolutely fantastic surprise!!
pecan is mr lkp's ultimate fave pie. though his fave-of-faves is his grandmother's pecan pie. poor man, married a non-nutter. i don't mind peanuts & pistachios as themselves, but i don't dig nuts in desserts. never have. so, it's a national holiday if i'm able to talk his grandma into making him a pie of his own! :) but she's a wonderful woman, and it tickles her so that she makes his most favorite. hope you recover from your pie coma soon. there's LOADS of Christmas to get underway, now! ::hugs::
ReplyDeletePie coma - my favorite!!! We'll have "American" thanksgiving next weekend when Thomas returns from a week-long exercise in northern Italy!
ReplyDeleteHugs to you!
Well! I was as surprised as you were that that pie made it one piece! Seriously! I have never mailed a pie before and I was just taking a chance that it would make it all the way to Idaho in one piece! That really made my day! Thanks United States Postal Service for delivering Tauna's first ever Pecan Pie!
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving weekend!
(ps: I'm glad it's over!!)
Loves!
Is there ANYTHING better than Pecan Pie ... nope! Lucky you ... now I'll go nibble on mine in the fridge.
ReplyDeleteHave a beautiful week, my friend.
TTFN ~
Marydon
WOW!!! That is incredible. What a great friend.
ReplyDeletePecan pie is THE BEST.
Whoa! Both those pies look so good. I can't believe the pie held up so well in the mail!
ReplyDeleteI love pecan pie, but my husband is an anti-fan, so I've never made one. I may have to try and covert him one of these day. I think I need to find a friend like Gigi!
And I always make everything from scratch for Thanksgiving, but not this year, I cheated and bought my pies. :)
I am really impressed! I didn't know that a pie would survive...it looked beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI am with Tammy...I have never had pecan pie either.
Testing to see if I can comment now. Hugs
ReplyDeleteThat is way cool. I'm into shipping things flat rate to my daughter in Hawaii and I always over protect stuff like books and clothes. I'm afraid they are going to break or something. duh. No longer, I'll just think of that pie coming safely to your house. very cool.
ReplyDeleteThis is SO funny! I seriously had it on my agenda to drop off a Coconut Cream Pie to you on Friday on my way to work, because I know how much you like it, but then I remembered that you had rolled out 10 crusts and I didn't want to add one more pie to your day, so I didn't bring it by. It just cracks me up that you had 2 additional pies for Thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteSO sweet that GIGI made you a pie and mailed it to you all the way from Georgia...and more amazing is that it arrived in perfectly great shape!
I LOVE Pecan Pie SO much, but I have yet to make one that turns out, so I have resorted to making Pecan Pie Bars.
Thanks for the laugh about the "Pie Coma". I hope you had a wonderful day with all of your family there with you.
Enjoy your week!!
Okay, lets try this again.
ReplyDeleteHoly my my my!
Glad that USPS noted the "frajilly" sign on the box and took extra care.
One of these days, Imma try some pecan pie
Who mails pies!? That is so awesome! I can't imagine getting anything better in the mail than a homemade pie. Yummy!
