Howie will be traveling for most of August.
So Saturday we had a little getaway.
(We live within an hour and a half drive from West Yellowstone, Montana and Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
We're pretty lucky.)
We picked up Lynsey and Lexi and drove through Jackson to get to Jenny Lake.
(Lynsey's hubby is in Dallas for three months.
This is the Wyoming side of the Tetons.
This is right on the lake looking up at Teewinot.
This is the "Grand" of the Grand Tetons.
It is such a rugged and stunning display of nature.
The lake was so absolutely beautiful.
Lexi insisted on walking!
And climbing.
"Inna a big gril gramma"("I'm a big girl grandma")
And climbing some more.
(Sometimes it isn't a good thing to be an ER nurse. I'm constantly worrying where the nearest hospital is. WITH GOOD REASON!)
Sometimes she insisted on NOT walking.
No worries, she didn't have to.
"I wuv you grampa."
Sometimes she was held for her own safety. And my sanity.
We stopped and had some lunch.
We made it to Hidden Falls.
So beautiful.
"It's wowd gramma" (It's loud grandma.")
We drove into Yellowstone in hopes of seeing one of these little creatures.
It was a good day!
I actually thought passed a blog friend Jody on the trail, but wasn't sure it was her. (We met briefly once for a second.)
When I saw her at the boat dock, I snapped a picture being all NCIS and stuff.
I emailed her and asked if she had been to Jenny Lake that day and if she was wearing a pink shirt.
Sure enough.
Shoulda not been shy and said hi.
Me with my oldest with her oldest. Also her only....HINT HINT Lyns!
I wish July could stay for another few months!
What a fun day and such a beautiful area!!
ReplyDeleteAnd why do these stinkin' husbands have to stinkin' go out of town and leave their stinkin' wives bored out of theirstinkin' gourd?? Just sayin (I can relate)!!
You are very blessed to have that beauty practically in your backyard. Fun that Lynsey
and Lexi could go with you - Lexi is such a cute little girl :-D
BTW I'm Stinkin' FIrst!!!!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! What a fun getaway.
ReplyDeleteI often see people that I know I know, but not sure how and then wonder if it's from blog stalking, but don't dare ask.
The Tetons are truly God's country. Just the best. We had the best mulberry milkshake on one side of the Tetons. It was in a town where they have a theater with melodramas or something. Anyway, it's beautiful. Glad you had fun. Always call out the name of who you think it is. If they look around--bingo. If not people around you just think you're crazy. It's a win/win situation ;o)
ReplyDeleteI love it there..one of the most beautiful places! Looks like a fun day with that little one. So funny about running into a blog friend..;D
ReplyDeleteI'm envious of these magnificent views you have! Beautiful photos of you all and crazy about recognizing a blog friend!
ReplyDeleteHow utterly gorgeous it is out there! I went as a child and one of my favorite things to do was hike to the different waterfalls. You bring back lovely memories as I watch you creating your own!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful place. I was in Jackson Hole about 19 years ago, one of the prettiest places on earth.
ReplyDeleteI agree, we deserve a couple of months worth of July after the cold winter and spring we had.
So beautiful! I had no idea you were so close to all that. Lucky!
ReplyDeleteWow- that truly is a beautiful area. It has been a long time since I have been to Yellowstone. Love the hidden waterfall. And so fun that your daughter and grand daughter got to come, she is so cute!
ReplyDeleteoh! i'm soooo jealous! i miss hiking over there!!!! what a cute grand-girl. and hidden falls looks amazing. next time i'm there, we gotta go hiking k? ::hugs::
ReplyDeleteWe took this trip last summer and it was the bomb dot com. So beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI hope August goes by fast for you.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun time! How lucky for Lexi to have the wonderful time with her grandparents:)
ReplyDeleteOh, my goodness! That scenery is so beautiful! Little Lexi is adorable and sounds like she had herself a very good time. Fun time for everyone. I would love to have some of that snow I saw on those mountains, it sure would help cool it off around here. Hugs
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun day!! I loved all your photos!
ReplyDeleteAnd I LOVE those Pringle buffalo wing flavored chips too, lol! We even get them over here!!!
I do have relatives out in Montana, but I have never visited. Never been west of Kansas City (not counting the brief residence in Austin when I was small). Not that I don't want to...just never been. That's all.
ReplyDeleteFun! Wish I was there! It just looks so restful and peaceful and gorgeous. I hope the trip, and the fun family wedding festivities, sustain you while your hubby is traveling in August. I know you miss him when he's gone!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful place to go hiking. Those falls are INCREDIBLE.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had such a fun outing.
I hope September is here before you know it ; )
We ARE lucky to live where we do!! And I think I have a similar picture of the Tetons! (The first one)
ReplyDeleteWe don't go to Jackson very often though. I probably should change that. Oh yeah. Except, I'm moving. To the other side of YNP. Guess I'll learn more about Cody and Red Lodge, etc. *sigh*
P.S. Can you believe the amount of WATER is flowing down those waterfalls? HUGE!!!!
ReplyDeleteWe went to Jackson Hole for our honeymoon but I don't remember much of the scenery. ;)
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute little munchkin! The picture of you and Howard is darling...as usual!
Too bad he has to be gone most of August. Enjoy this last week with him!
Those falls are so beautiful!! I've only been to Yellowstone once and it was a very quick visit. I remember the beautiful Tetons. Glad you had such a fun day.
ReplyDeleteOnly thing missing on such a gorgeous day was "Smarkley"
ReplyDeleteSuch great pictures and especially the one of Grampa carrying little Miss Lexi! Just precious.
How come I am so jealous? It's past time for a trip to the west. PAST!!
Such a gorgeous place. Glad you had a great time.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you potentially ran into a blogging friend while out on a hike!
ReplyDeleteAnd the scenery is gorgeous!
That just looks so cool...literally! as I sit here sweating! hint hint....lol...
ReplyDeleteSO happy you finally made it to Jenny Lake! I never tire of that place and the Wyoming side of the Tetons are stunning!! My have such a deep love for Grand Teton and Yellowstone. What a lucky thing that we live so close to them. Wish we could get out and enjoy them more than we do.
ReplyDeleteLove Howard's hat...love you both in your hiking clothes (the picture of the two of you in front of the Falls is AWESOME!) and your grand-daughters sweet comments in "child talk" were priceless!! (I love the stage when kids can't quite pronounce all of the letters right). So happy you were able to take Lyns and Lexi with you.
I wish July could stay for a few months as well! It's the perfect time of year!! Enjoy the last few days of having Howie here...enjoy each and every moment!
Hi!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your nice comment! I live in Idaho - just north of Shelley to be exact...small but nice!
I soooo understand what you mean when you say we are pretty lucky - I have lived here all my life, and wouldn't have it any other way. I love the Tetons - what beautiful pictures you took!
I can see you also love your grandkids - what would life be without them?! My garden on the other hand . . . still looks pretty bad.
I love the picture of the Rexburg Temple on your sidebar - my son and his wife are being sealed there on Saturday - we are so excited for them!
Your blog is wonderful - and it's been fun to get to know you too!
Blessings,
Barb
I love Jenny Lake! How lucky to be so close to so much beauty! WE love the Tetons! Enjoy it all, and please send me some cool mountain air! Have a wonderful time! I love your beautiful pictures!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Brenda
You silly patootie!
ReplyDeleteWe even dressed alike. I am ready to do it again! When you going? This time we WILL stop and have soggy samiches togever!!!
You are very lucky, that is a beautiful area. Love all the pictures. Our son-in-law was there last summer. I haven't been there in maybe 35 years! How funny how you saw a blog friend. We go to Mammoth Lakes in 10 days, I can't wait!
ReplyDeleteI haven't done the Jenny Lake hike in years. I'm going to plan a trip real soon. It's gorgeous up there.
ReplyDeleteWow! That looks like something both me and Chloee would LOVE! The mountains, the hiking, the water. Spectacular scenery.
ReplyDeleteAnd the ER nurse thing, just the other night while out VT'ing, the talk of ER nurses came up, I mentioned you, and then my friend insisted you were the one to take care of her son when they had to hit the ER up there after a car accident.
I told her, listen - unless she is beautiful, spunky and funny as hell - it wasn't her.
She's sure it was you : )
