It Ain't Pretty

It's my dead winter-worn grass.
It's the first I've seen it since November 7th of last year.
We snowed that day and have had snow since then, NOTSTOP, continous.
UGLY HUH?

It's the most beautiful thing I've seen for a VERY long time.

On another note......
I made frozen strawberry jam yesterday.
Not just a little.

That may last a few months.

Also because it's the FIRST DAY OF SPRING!!!!!
I believe in celebrating events such as this!
I'm off to parTAY with a few of these!
Better than Reeses Peanut Butter Cups

10 graham crackers, finely crushed
4 C powdered sugar
1 C butter, melted
2 C peanut butter
Mix together and spread in a cookie sheet.
Melt two large Symphony bars and spread over the peanut butter mixture.
Chill and serve.

  2. JAM? That took a long time! My sister made 80 pints when she was here two years ago, and we just used the last one. Good thing strawberries are coming back in season.
I love your grass. It is beautiful.

  4. Oh my gosh, I did not need to know that recipe!!! I'm going now to the store... I will be cursing your name tomorrow when I'm trying to work it off and am slower than usual!!!

    Sorry about your grass... :)

  5. That grass is one SAD sight :-(
The Sweetheart mow our grass yesterday for the first time this season. You probably want have to mow until June.

That is was lots of work that you have stacked up in your freezer. You are a wonder woman.

I love me some Reeses PB cups. I will be trying this recipe soon! Yummy stuff.

  6. Oh anything with Reese's PBcups is good to me! And that is a long time not to see grass.

  7. Ah, snow mold...we used to have that on our grass. Where it kills it mushy for quite a while. But you will get green grass before too long and tulips and daffodils. Here in the hubs of hell (Arizona) we don't have spring bulbs and few have "real" grass. I was just thinking today how pretty my roses were the spring we left Idaho. Sigh! That's a long time snow covered. But it IS spring now! We had asparagus tonight. I remember when I used to pick it off the ditch banks in my Idaho. (Can you tell I'm a little homesick?) I wish you sunshine and green sprouts. Hugs from here on the surface of the sun...

  8. Yay Spring! My tulips are starting to come up...I have never been so excited for Spring before.

Those peanut butter chocolate bars look yummy! Anything with pb & chocolate is usually a favorite around here.

Your the best and I am sorry about your yard but thank goodness you can see it now. Please let it grow really fast and pretty for you.
So appreciate your sweet comment about my writing.
If I am as blessed as to have something published you know you would get a signed copy. lol
Boy that sounds good just writing it where would we be without dreams
Thanks again for the comment and I love you

  12. May I par-tay with you? Looks like good goodies for the first day of spring!
Your grass is just in shock that it's exposed for all to see! It's going to turn green and beautiful before you know it! (I'll keep my fingers crossed for you...and your grass)

  13. Ahhhh spring. I have a long ways to get rid of my snow. North facing are not made for melting snow. I havemade those Reeses things and they are deadly good.

  14. I amazes me how hearty grass is. It can look dead, dry and ugly then over time it comes back green and ready to be mowed.

I guess that's the beauty of spring, but there's nothing more beautiful than your batch of strawberry jam!!

    Dang woman you've been busy!!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Whoa! That is a LOT of jam! I've never made freezer jam, but you're inspiring me to give it a try.

I too am so happy to see our grass, as ugly as it is! It is beautiful!

  16. So I was thinking-"What is she talking about?! I think its BEAUTIFUL!" Then I read on. . .it is a beautiful thing!
I made about that much jam in October. . .nothing like home made strawberry jam, you think it will last FOREVER cause you make so much and its gone before you know it!

  17. You've been busy, and you're eating good! YUM!!!

That old grass will be bursting with green freshness soon!

  18. Yummy! You're trying to ruin my weight loss aren't you?

Funny that our winter lawn is the lawn I love best. We have to seed it every fall and it comes in so green and lush, it's much better than the normal summer lawn.

    I'll shut up now.

  19. Even though it keeps snowing.. and will keep snowing for a few more days.. I REFUSE to let it destroy my happiness of yesterday being the the first day of spring!!

    Oh happy day!!!

Thanks for the reminder of needing to stock back up on my Jam. my family is spoiled. -- It's the only kind they will eat!

Your freezer looks like mine. I hate it.. and I am going to sell it and buy a new upright again! I feel to un-organized with it.. and I hate to dig through it.

I know that ugly grass will be pretty again soon.. I just know it!

  30. that Jam is a beautiful sight - much better than the grass :)

Just pull out the green spray paint, you'll feel springier in no time - even if you did eat all those PB cups :)

  31. Ooohh... with hubby gone all week, I may just need to make myself some of those!

*sigh* The snow was depressing today. At least it melted away!

Dang woman, did you find a good deal on strawberries or something? Looks delish!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Oh yes, that truly is the most lovely gorgeous, glorious brown, pathetic looking grass ever.
    IT'S GRASS
I haven't seen it yet...still just mud and snow and it is still snowing as I write this.
If I were at your house I'd eat that whole pan of goodies MYSELF, and not even share, cause I am feeling kinda violent like that right now.
where did you get strawberries?? off some ship from Jamacia??

    ReplyDelete
  33. Thanks for sharing the Reese's recipe! Looks great! The jam looks good too! Wishing you warm Spring Days, come and visit! :)

  35. It just goes to show ya that beauty IS really in the eye of the beholder!!! Heeeheheh

We had beautiful weather and it actually hit 77 today. Temp is fallin' like a rock off an overpass right now and we have frost warnings for tonight and snow for the weekend. That's Missouri weather for ya! :o)

I always make these peanut butter cups for my Mama...it's one of her favorite things!!! MMmmmmm

God bless ya and have an amazin' day sweetie!!!

  37. Mmmmm the jam and the Reeses look really yummy! But the grass? No! Now that I think about it, my grass looks ugly too. I can't wait until it starts to green up. Now I am going to make that reese's recipe. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  38. No it ain't very pretty but it will be green soon. Wow, I am impressed with the jam and I am definately going to try those bars!

  39. I have Spring fever BAD!!! And now I am craving Peanut butter cups.
    Jam looks good too.

  40. I make a very similar recipe for the bars and they are killer!
But, wow. That jam! How large is your freezer?

    ReplyDelete
  41. Your jam is an inspiration for me to get my own jam going!
As for the yard, ours is similar...and it's snowing as I type this. I was just thinking I needed to start watering it yesterday and here it is snowing today. UGH.

Summer will be here before we know it though right?!
    The recipe looks yummy.

  43. Where did you find frozen strawberries? Our grass looks about the same....with a little green on the tips. And then it hailed today. I think it was supposed to be officially spring last week. And I was supposed to be mature when I turned 21.

    ReplyDelete
  44. oh.my.goodness. i missed you SOOOOOO much this past weekend! no lie. and then to come to your blog and see all this wonderfulness and to soak in your wit, i miss you even more! (not to mention those better than reese's, hullo! not to mention that yummy jam!) love you oodles. that's it. i'm gonna have to sit down, put some ducks in a row (and maybe some baby chicks, keep your fingers crossed as those wonderful two hens have been sitting on about 16 eggs for about a week & a half now!!!!), set some financial goals, and plan out a trip to see you again this year! perhaps while mini-me's at one of her camps....but then again, she may hate me for THAT timing, especially if she finds out i'll be seeing you and she won't. bwahahahaha....but isn't that the fun of being a mom, is getting to do some things without your kids, and telling them they can do those things when they're the mom?! love you oodles & oodles. ::hugs::

p.s. at least your wintered grass isn't as ugly as my now-non-existent-thanks-to-the-four-dogs grass!

    ReplyDelete
  45. I hope by now, that snow has faded away a bit more. Hope you're seeing lots of green soon. I won't even tell you what the temperature was here today....

  46. Hope you enjoyed your "PAR-TAY"!!

I am definitely going to be making for my Jade. He LOVES, LOVES, LOVES Reeses peanut butter cups and has been begging me to make some homemade ones. Have never heard of using a Symphony candy bar...I bet those are absolutely delicious!!

Thanks for sharing!! Oh and YES, I have the same ugly looking grass staring us in the face in our front yard, but HEY, at least the snow is gone and there is hope of spring coming shortly!

    ReplyDelete
  47. PS....I had a one track mind with the Reeses and yard picks that i forgot to comment on the jam....YUMMY and WOW to all that hard work making freezer jam. Your family will love you.

Homemade bread, plus homemade jam = happiness!!

Which reminds me, I need to pull some huckleberries out of my freezer and make some more jam. We are down to our last jar and we don't dare open it, so I better get busy and make some more so we can enjoy it again.
